Where we are - Neustadt in Sachsen
Neustadt was mentioned in a document as a gold mining town for the first time in 1333. Freiberg miners were the founders. They called the town founded by them Nuwenstad or Niwenstad, which belonged to the Bohemian crown at that time. In 1443, first one half of the town became part of Saxony by purchase or exchange and in 1451 the other half. From that time on Neustadt always remained Saxony’s property. Trade and business left their mark on the town. After the war metal working developed particularly. Agricultural machine and electrical engineering industries were the most important productions there. Since the Wall fell in 1989 the region has been re-structuring itself. The proverbial Saxon industriousness and the inventive faculty of the inhabitants form the basis of new industries. Today the town has about 14,000 inhabitants. The landscape around Neustadt, Lusatia and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains belong to Germany‘s most beautiful landscapes. Czechia is only about 10 km away, to Dresden it’s about 35 km.
